Celebrating the 650th Birth Anniversary of Bhagat Ravidas Ji

Mata Sundri College for Women, University of Delhi, successfully organised the 49th Bani, Kirtan, Declamation and Akharkari Competition on 8 and 9 October 2026 at the College Gurdwara Sahib. Dedicated to the 650th birth anniversary of Bhagat Ravidas Ji, the two-day event celebrated the enduring spiritual, social and ethical significance of his bani.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across Nursery, Primary, Middle, Secondary, Senior Secondary and College levels. The first day featured Bani and Declamation competitions, followed by Kirtan and Akharkari competitions on the second day. Participants engaged with Shabads from Sri Guru Granth Sahib and reflected on the life, teachings and ideology of Bhagat Ravidas Ji, exploring their relevance to contemporary social concerns.

The event provided a meaningful platform for young participants to connect with Sikh spiritual heritage while developing confidence in public expression and showcasing their musical, linguistic and calligraphic abilities. Their enthusiasm, discipline and devotion contributed to the success of the competition.

The College gratefully acknowledges the guidance of the Chairman, Governing Body, Padma Shri Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, and the encouragement of the Principal, Prof. Harpreet Kaur. The successful organisation of the competition reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage, nurturing talent and promoting harmony through education.
