The One-Day International Seminar on Baba Farid: Literary Contributions, Historical Insights
and Lasting Legacy was held on February 13, 2025, at Mata Gujri Hall, Mata Sundri College for
Women, University of Delhi. The seminar in collaboration with the Punjabi Department and
the History Department proved to be a platform for scholars from India, Pakistan and the UK to
celebrate the substantial contributions to history and literature made by Baba farid.The event
convened by Dr. Harwinder Singh, member, Minority Cell, saw 168 registrations. The seminar
began with an inaugural session with insights from Prof. Harpreet Kaur,Principal of our college,
Dr. Daljit Kaur, Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sirsa, and Dr. Saiyid Zaheer Husain Jafri. This was followed
by Technical Session 1 with discussion on historical perspective, and Technical Session 2,
discussing the depth of Baba Farid's bani - poetry and its place in Guru Granth Sahib. The
seminar concluded in a valedictory session where Khwaja Syed Mohammad Nizami provided
remarks about Baba Farid's impact and relevance within Sufi traditions. Everyone left the
seminar feeling thoroughly enriched and full of awe, with an appreciation about Baba Farid's
teachings and relative relevancy as it pertains to our current, day-to-day landscapes.
