Timeline: 01 Aug 2021 - 31 Jul 2022

Peer mentoring enriches students through meaningful student-to-student interactions on various topics and issues. It provides them with new ideas, opportunities, clarity on rules, and solutions to queries.

The Department of History believes in fostering a healthy and value-based relationship among undergraduate students across different years. Traditionally, senior students have always supported their juniors by offering guidance and mentorship. To formalize this effort, the Department selected third-year History Honours students to serve as peer mentors for their juniors.

The Peer Mentoring Programme continued in the academic session 2021–22 with a group of peer mentors—Sandleen, Shubha, Afia, Shreya, Shamaila, Lipika, Nishu, and Nandini—under the guidance of Dr. Navendu Shekhar. They actively guided their juniors on various issues such as library usage, college functioning, academics, and general counselling. The mentors also prepared a PowerPoint presentation for first-year students, which explained essential aspects such as the importance of a college ID, and how to access Google Chat and Google Meet.

In 2021–22, peer mentoring was also extended to students of the History Discipline in the B.A. Programme. The following students formed the mentoring group:

  • Karishma Mehta (BAP/19/361)

  • Apurva Gupta (BAP/19/232)

  • Jaya Upadhyay (BAP/19/213)

  • Chanchal Rai (BAP/19/470)

  • Mariya Shah (BAP/19/509)

  • Mavia (BAP/19/510)

  • Nikita Sharma (BAP/19/169)

  • Simran Kaur Kalsi (BAP/19/523)

  • Vinita Sharma (BAP/19/360)

  • Pakiza (BAP/19/237)

Each peer mentor devoted a weekly time-slot of 3.5 hours to guide and counsel their juniors whenever assistance was required. They also conducted Google Meet sessions to discuss academic topics and to demonstrate how to access the college’s online library facilities. Additionally, mentoring and counselling were facilitated through the Google Chat platform on the college domain.
