Oral History and Traditions
Department: Department of History
Timeline: 01 Jul 2021 - 31 Jan 2022
In July 2021, the students of the B.A. (Honours) History programme initiated a research project on the theme Oral History and Traditions under the mentorship of Dr. Daljit Kaur. Eight students participated in this project, which sought to document, analyze, and interpret oral narratives and cultural traditions as valuable sources for understanding the past.
The project involved rigorous academic investigation as well as active community interaction, enabling students to engage directly with local voices and lived experiences. By collecting oral testimonies and tracing traditional practices, the research highlighted the significance of memory, storytelling, and cultural continuity in reconstructing history.
This initiative not only enhanced the students’ research and analytical skills but also deepened their appreciation of heritage and the ways in which intangible traditions contribute to our historical knowledge.
