The Film Society of Mata Sundri College for Women is a vibrant academic and cultural platform that celebrates the power of cinema as a mirror to society and a canvas of human emotion. More than just a form of entertainment, cinema is embraced by the society as an art that reflects lived realities, reimagines possibilities, and engages with critical questions of culture, identity, and history.
With a thoughtful and interdisciplinary approach, the Society curates and screens a diverse range of films—from popular classics to avant-garde and parallel cinema—chosen for their historical significance, artistic merit, and societal relevance. Each screening becomes an opportunity for intellectual engagement, inviting students to critically analyze narrative styles, visual language, and thematic content through a broader socio-political and philosophical lens.
Films such as Dead Poets Society, Angels and Demons, Pride and Prejudice, Frankenstein, Gandhi to Hitler, The Pursuit of Happyness, and Tahaan have been showcased in recent years, sparking discussions on education, justice, conflict, mental health, and more. These screenings not only cultivate aesthetic appreciation but also deepen understanding of global cultures and human experiences.
The Film Society serves as a space where cinema is both studied and celebrated—a community of cinephiles, storytellers, and critical thinkers who recognize film as a powerful tool for dialogue, reflection, and change. Through its initiatives, the Society continues to foster a culture of curiosity, conversation, and creative interpretation among students.
