On April 30, 2024, the Department of Philosophy's society, Astitva, hosted a symposium on the "Global Gender Gap Report with special reference to India's position and Viksit Bharat". The event was held in Mata Gujri Hall and featured a keynote address by Principal Dr. Harpreet Kaur and a special address by Prof. Praveen Kumar Pathak. Prof. Pathak, a geography professor at JNU , discussed topics such as gender disparities in education, economic empowerment, and the problems of foeticide and infanticide. He noted that India ranks 127th out of 146 countries in the report and emphasized the importance of educating and empowering girls. The symposium aimed to promote gender sensitivity and provide attendees with valuable tools to address gender inequality.
