A book discussion on "Region, Religion and Politics: 100 Years of Shiromani Akali Dal" by Prof. A.S. Narang was organized by Polimates, the Political Science Department, and IQAC of Mata Sundari College for Women on April 12, 2023. The event was held in Mata Gujri Hall to commemorate 100 years of the Shiromani Akali Dal. The discussion began with a welcome and introduction by the Convenor, Dr. Simer Preet Kaur. The Principal, Prof. Harpreet Kaur, congratulated the author and spoke about the changing political landscape of Punjab in the context of religion. The event also featured guest speakers Prof. Mahindra Nath Thakur and discussants Dr. Harwinder Singh and Mr. Varun Wighmal. Dr. Harwinder Singh discussed the politics of indecisiveness and freebies in Punjab, while Mr. Varun Wighmal focused on the state's cultural plurality and internal diversity. Prof. Narang also spoke about the "curse of the Green Revolution" and the possibility of identity politics in Punjab. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Moitri Dey and Prof. Mahindra Nath Jha, who encouraged young scholars to conduct in-depth research on the subject.
