EARTHCON – THE ECO CLUB

Earthcon was established in September 2020 as a part of EVS department, further upgraded as a centralized body of the college and converted into an eco club in May 2022 after receiving funds from the Department of Environment, Govt. of Delhi, NCT, for organizing various environment awareness activities for the college students.

Earthcon focuses on creating environmental awareness among the masses about the various environmental issues and their causes. Earthcon the eco club works on environmental conservation, capacity building, and raising awareness This has been set up by the college to create mindfulness about the environment issues and its management. It additionally endeavors to discover openings for eco-accommodating waste administration in the college The eco club attempts to organize different ecological exercises such as webinar sessions, workshops, campaigns, quizzes, competitions, pledges etc

Earthcon-the eco club of Mata Sundri College for Women, University of Delhi motivates student members of the eco club to protect Mother Earth. The eco club not only provides educational and career aspects but also cultural and spiritual values. The events organized by the Earthcon spread social and environmental awareness among the masses, and strive to provide the best knowledge. The Earthcon makes everyone aware of their roles and responsibilities towards nature and promises to continue to do so.

The main objectives of the Earthcon are as follows:

  • To provide a forum for bringing together experiences related to the natural and built environment from individuals, institutions and organizations.
  • To mobilize and enable student communities for collective actions to promote sustainable development and to achieve it through promoting values of civil society.
  • To highlight the issues of governance, related to sustainable development, through advocacy.
  • To create awareness regarding environmental pollution and environmental degradation, and its effect(s) on human health, social set-up, economy and politics.
  • To raise awareness about the global, national and local environmental problems with emphasis on current issues faced by local communities
  • To create partnerships with organizations working in the area of environmental awareness (WWF, NGOs etc.)
  • To promote women’s partnership in environmental issues.
  • To improve the conservation of biodiversity through educational, scientific management and workshops
  • To ensure that the natural environment is used wisely and continues to be available for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations.
