Under the aegis of ‘Viksit Bharat’, the Women Development Cell, Asmita, celebrated International Women's Day on March 7th, 2024, with a dynamic event titled "Nari Shakti: Shifting Norms and Driving Change," led under the convenorship of Prof. Madhuri Sukhija. The event featured a captivating lecture delivered by Prof. Geeta Singh, Director of CPDHE (UGC MMTTC), University of Delhi, who explored the crucial topic of "Empowering Women in Indian Politics: Propelling the Future." The event also included an Inter-college Open Mic Competition and an Inter-college Poster Making Competition in collaboration with the IQAC.
ON 17th February 2024, A dynamic team of six enthusiastic MSC volunteers joined forces with ten dedicated members from the NGO "Aashraya," forming a robust coalition for the Sanitary Donation Drive in the heart of Mansarovar Park's slum areas. The drive's effective execution spanned a thoughtful 5-hour window, providing ample time for interactions, education, and distribution of vital resources. A mix of sanitary pads and educational pamphlets were collected during the drive, which were later donated at the respective site. The donated sanitary pads not only addressed a critical need but were also generously matched by the NGO "Aashraya," effectively doubling the impact of the initiative.
Under the aegis of ‘Viksit Bharat’, the WDC organized a webinar on the said theme, in collaboration with the IQAC. The speaker for the day was Major Preeti Sehrawat who spoke at length about the increasing and positive incidence of women’s participation in the defence forces of the country. Drawing upon her own life experiences, the speaker highlighted the numerous opportunities and challenges that the defence forces throw open for women when pursued as a career choice. The live session was attended by 45 students and the faculty members of Asmita.
In collaboration with the IQAC, the WDC organized a National Seminar on the above-mentioned themes. The esteemed speakers for the event were Dr. Anshu Srivastava, Associate Professor, NIEPA, New Delhi and Dr. Ayushi Ketkar, Assistant Professor, Special Centre for National Security Studies (SCNSS), JNU. Themes like women’s transformative role in the world owing to her status as Janani, and purposeful utilization of a global platform like the G20 towards empowerment of women, were explored by the respective speakers. The event saw an overwhelming participation of students and faculty alike. The event recorded registrations by 57 students.
Asmita, the Women Development Cell of Mata Sundri College, under the aegis of the IQAC and in collaboration with organization FIFE, conducted a three-day multidisciplinary workshop on the theme, Gender Sensitization: Deepening Insights. The workshop spanned a close to ten hours over three days, focusing on an impressing range of issues like gender, sexuality, reproductive rights, consent, menstrual health, Queer identity, LGBTQIA+ and gender & media. A close to 60 students registered for the workshop.
