Department of Political Science

The IQAC-directed Peer-mentoring programme was launched to provide a platform for promotion of peer-to-peer interaction among the students of the college. The programme envisaged a space for the students outside the set discipline of the classroom where their problems related to academics, the discipline and the syllabus would be addressed and resolved by their peers themselves. The programme includes mentoring by the senior batches of students within the department, who provide resource-based assistance and guidance to their junior counterparts. The aim of the programme is to create an informal network of support and guidance for the students of the department outside the formal modality of the classroom.

Continuing with the precedent set by Department of Political Science last year, the IQAC-directed Peer-mentoring Programme was successfully conducted this semester as well, which saw enthusiastic participation by students of the college. The Programme initiated this semester among the BA Programme students saw fruitful conduct of five sessions where the mentors, comprising of students of the final year or fifth semester, helped the junior batches with different parts of the ongoing syllabus. The sessions were meticulously planned by the mentors after consultations with students and by identifying the problems areas for the latter.

Topics like Presidential Political Systems, Electoral systems, Authoritarian and Democratic Regimes, Features of One-Party system with special reference to China and the like were discussed via thorough lectures prepared by the mentors. For every session, a good number of thirty to forty students were reported to have attended and discussed their doubts with the mentors. For this semester, there were seven students from the BA Programme department who volunteered to be mentors for the junior batches and help them with their syllabuses outside the classroom. The Peer-mentoring programme yet again proved to be a commendable success among the students, visible as it was in the huge participation by the students.
