The Department of Elementary Education conducted an Interdisciplinary Lecture on the topic “ Constitution of India: Framework and Scope” for the students of B.El.Ed. 1st year on 30th May 2023, Tuesday at 9:30 am. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Simarpreet Kaur (Assistant Professor) from department of Political Science, MSCW. It was coordinated by Ms. Divya Sharma (Convenor) and Dr. Mansiha Subba (Co-convenor) from the department of Elementary Education, Mata Sundri College.

Dr. Ishleen Kaur Lamba (Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, MSCW) conducted an online lecture on Rousseau’s Philosophy on Education. Ms. Divya Sharma (Assistant Professor, MSCW) at Department of Elementary Education, was the convenor for this lecture which was attended by 38 students of B.El.Ed 3rd year batch.

An Interactive talk on Schooling and aspirations in the urban margins was held on 11th October 2021 from 4:00 pm to 5:30pm on google meet platform for B.EL.ED 2nd year students under their Academic enrichment initiative. Dr. Gunjan Sharma, Assistant Professor at Ambedkar University Delhi, was the guest speaker of the talk.

Prof. Padma M. Sarangapani (Tata Institute of social sciences (TISS) began the talk with a brief of her observations, emphasizing the relationship between culture and pedagogy. Ms. Padma read us an excerpt from her work which entails South Asian education. She further highlighted the significance of description of “teachers” as agents who are embedded in professional and institutional context, a description which entails value judgements.

An online talk on the theme "B.El.Ed. : Fulfilling a Constitutional Vision" was organized on September 9, 2021 by the department of elementary education of Mata Sundri College for Women. It was attended by 60 people including the students of B. El. Ed. from all the years and the faculty members of the college.

An online talk on “Understanding Education as a Right” was organised for B.EL.Ed. I year students on 17th December 2020 intended to provide an informed perspective to students on how government policies translate into action in the school setting. The thrust area of the talk was to understand education as a human right and not as a matter of privilege, legal guarantees and state obligations towards it.

The speaker for the talk was Prof. Kavita Sharma, Professor in NCERT.The resource person talked about various nuances attached to pedagogy of EVS such as Environmental studies, Environmental education, and Environmental science.

Talk titled ‘Stories: A Medium To Enhance Critical Thinking’ by Ms. Prachi Kalra (Assistant Professor, Gargi College, University of Delhi) was conducted on 25th October, 2018 for B.El.Ed. II year students. Objective of the workshop was to understand the usage of stories to enhance critical thinking.

Department were concluded with a talk on ‘Multiple Childhoods’ by renowned Disability Activist Prof Anita Ghai, Professor, Ambedkar University, Delhi. The session was attended by the first and second year B.. El. .Ed. students, faculty members of the host college and SPM college.

The resource person for the talk was Prof. Vasanthi Raman, Centre for Women’s Development Studies. Prof. Raman is an eminent sociologist. The talk was attended by the first and second year students.

An interactive talk by Prof. Harjeet Kaur Bhatia was organized by the Department of Elementary Education on September 25, 2017. The lecture was attended by students of B.El.Ed. as well as the faculty members of the department. Prof. Bhatia is presently associated with the Faculty of Education at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi. Prof. Bhatia highlighted the critical need of teachers who are reflective practitioners and this is how she brought out the central topic of the lecture i.e. Critical thinking.

A talk titled ‘कहानी: चुनना और कहना’ was organized on March 30, 2017 for the second year students. The resource person for the session was Ms. Prachi Kalra. She is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Elementary Education at Gargi College. During the session she discussed several important issues pertaining to the narration and selection of children’s literature like the connection with the story, its characters, different versions of folk tales, the nature of stories and concepts suitable and unsuitable for kids, follow-up activities, their relevance, etc. She broadened the horizon of students’ understanding by bringing up contemporary issues and debates related to the theme.

The lecture was attended by all students of B.El.Ed. & B.A. (P) Education discipline as well as the faculty members of both the departments. Prof. Farooqi is a well known personality in the field of education and presently associated with the Faculty of Education at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi.

A talk on No Detention Policy was conducted on 13th January, 2017 by the members of Lok Shikshak Manch, including School teachers and scholars of education. The members spoke at length about the historical background of NDP, academic discourse supporting this policy and its implementation.

Prof. Deepak Kumar, Jawaharlal Nehru University spoke on the importance of dialogue and the need to understand the context of issues, whether in the pasts or of contemporary times for better solution, attended by all students.
